Interview with Maipac Media Tanzania

Apr 1, 2026

A recent blog post from Maipac Media Tanzania features an interview with Soils for the Future Tanzania's own Richard Ndaskoi, discussing the impact of the Longido Monduli Carbon Project.

Soils for the Future Tanzania (SftFTZ) is delivering clear benefits to pastoralist communities in Monduli and Longido districts, where its soil carbon project is now active in more than 15 villages.

According to SftFTZ representative Richard Ndaskoi, the project is improving pasture availability and generating income through carbon credits, while strengthening livestock resilience.

“This project is very helpful,” Ndaskoi said, and higlighted that recent drought conditions in Arusha have shown the project’s impact. Communities involved reported that their livestock survived and remained in better condition compared to those outside the project.

In addition to financial benefits, the initiative provides training to support sustainable grazing and land use. Ndaskoi encouraged more pastoralists to join, noting that participation helps protect livelihoods, especially during periods of drought.

The project has reached about 50 percent of its implementation target and continues to expand, despite challenges including misinformation about land ownership.

“This project does not take land from communities,” Ndaskoi emphasized. Instead, the projects supports them to improve productivity and generate income that stays within the community. SftFTZ remains committed to scaling the project and working closely with communities to build resilience and restore rangelands across the region.
