In August 2026, the Longido and Monduli Rangeland Carbon Project (LMRCP) reached an important milestone with a high-level meeting that brought together Tanzania’s National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC) and representatives from regional, district, and local governments.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for the NCMC, Tanzania’s lead institution for national carbon monitoring, to engage directly with local government leaders and share support for the project and its continued development.

The meeting was attended by the NCMC Chief Executive Officer, the Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), the District Executive Directors (DEDs) of Monduli and Longido, representatives of Council Chairpersons of Monduli and Longido, as well as village council chairpersons and village executive officers from 19 villages that signed soil carbon credit implementation agreements. The breadth of participation brought together key decision-makers from the national level and community memebers where the project is being implemented!
